In which cases is male rhinoplasty applied?

Male rhinoplasty is a treatment method that we apply for patients who are not satisfied with the shape of their nose, have congenital or acquired deformities such as curvature and protrusion of the nose, or cannot breathe adequately through their nose. You may be considered a suitable candidate if you have any of the following problems:

• Crooked nose
• Wide or disproportionate nostrils
• Wide or narrow nose according to the face
• Short, upturned nose tip
• Droopy nose
• Inability to breathe adequately through the nose due to structural problems

What should be considered in male rhinoplasty?

Male rhinoplasty surgery addresses the unique facial features of men. Unlike the female nose, the male nose usually has a prominent, straight bridge. The tip of the nose and the upper lip has a 90-degree angle. Male rhinoplasty is customized to a man’s facial features. It allows the patient to have an aesthetically pleasing nose that supports his masculine appearance. For this reason, although the surgical method applied in male and female rhinoplasty is similar, the aesthetic goals after nose surgery are quite different. Unlike women, men often have nose surgery to correct the curvature of the nose. Generally,  men do not want an upturned nose that looks like it was reshaped afterward. How is the surgery done?

The surgery can be performed with closed or open methods. The method to be applied differs according to the existing deformity to be removed. In our clinic, we use the Piezo device in almost all our rhinoplasty surgeries. With this device, unlike the classical hammer chisel methods, we perform the surgery by rasping the cartilage structures without damaging the nasal bones. Thanks to the method we apply, the recovery time after the aesthetic operation is shortened, and the operation is completed with less bruising and swelling. The process takes about 1.5 – 2 hours. However, in difficult cases, the time maybe a little longer. It is performed under general anesthesia for patient comfort.

What should be considered after male rhinoplasty surgery?

To focus on recovery after male rhinoplasty surgery, it is necessary to take a break from work, school, or other daily activities for about ten days. One week later, the bandages on the nose and the silicones inside are removed. Since the skin does not breathe, this is the time when edema and swelling are highest. After two weeks from the surgery, approximately 60% of the edema and swelling go down. The remaining 40% disappears between six months and a year. In our thick-skinned patients, full recovery may take little more than a year. Up to 72 hours after surgery, the patient may experience congestion, headache, swelling. These problems usually go away on their own within a few days. Men are advised to avoid heavy physical activity for the first month after nose surgery. Glasses should not be used during this period.
