Bumpy Nose Rhinoplasty

Bumpy Nose Rhinoplasty

If a patient has a facial expression that appears stern, if the nose structure makes the person look larger than they are, if the face appears more asymmetrical due to curvature and a bump, if the patient has had a previous nasal fracture that healed improperly, if the patient has a naturally broad and long nose due to genetic reasons, if the patient experiences difficulty breathing due to a deviated septum, if the nasal tip is low, if the nasal wings are wide, or if the patient is dissatisfied with a previous rhinoplasty result, they may decide to undergo a rhinoplasty.

Bumpy nose rhinoplasty or nasal shaping surgery is performed based on a personalized design prepared using 3D simulation before the surgery. Rhinoplasty is conducted under general anesthesia to ensure that the patient does not experience pain or discomfort. If the part of the nose that the patient is unhappy with is more than 4-5 mm, the rhinoplasty surgeon will perform a shaping procedure after the incision. For this shaping procedure, the surgeon uses specially developed bone scissors and devices, and because the procedure is done under general anesthesia, the patient does not experience pain.

Bumpy nose rhinoplasty involves the cutting and smoothing of the bones between the cartilage and the upper point of the nose with special instruments. After this, the shaping process mentioned above is carried out to complete the rhinoplasty. The duration of the surgery increases proportionally with the prominence of the nasal bump. Patients may have concerns about the nose’s appearance after shaping. If a noticeable gap forms under the nose after shaping, the surgeon will either fill this gap or narrow the nose with the patient’s consent. Any remaining bones are also shaved to complete the procedure.

Bumpy nose rhinoplasty is generally a simple operation that lasts 1.5-2 hours, and the patient may stay in the hospital for one night. Afterwards, the doctor will monitor the patient for complaints and perform necessary health checks before discharging the patient, starting painkillers and antibiotics.

Bumpy nose rhinoplasty is advantageous for patients as risk factors are minimized. The patient can return to social life after only a few days of rest, and the goal of the surgery is to provide a thinner and more proportionate nose compared to the bumpy nose, offering both aesthetic and health benefits.

What is the Process After Bumpy Nose Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty requires the patient to avoid consuming water and food for the first 4-5 hours to prevent complications such as vomiting and bleeding. For the first 3-4 days after the surgery, it is important to keep the nose bandaged and not to attempt to remove the bandage on their own. The patient must follow the surgeon’s instructions precisely. Activities that put strain on the nose, showering for the first two days after the surgery, and swimming in the sea or pool should be avoided. The nose area should be protected from trauma during this period.
Bumpy nose rhinoplasty has minimal risk of complications with modern technology, though one in a hundred patients might experience temporary bleeding. A pinkish fluid may also come from the nose, which indicates the healing process and is not a cause for concern. If this fluid persists beyond 48 hours, a visit to the surgeon is advisable; if it stops before this period, there is no need for concern, although the patient may contact the doctor for reassurance. If bleeding is severe and continuous, the surgeon should be informed.

After the bandages are removed, the patient may notice the reduced bump and a smoother appearance of the nose, but the final result will take at least three months to be fully visible. During this early recovery period, the nose must be protected from trauma. The patient should wait at least one week after the bandages are removed before wearing glasses or clothes that go over the head, such as T-shirts. The longer the patient delays wearing glasses or head-over clothing, the better the final outcome will be.
