Formation of a False Dorsal Hump After Nose Surgery

Formation of a False Dorsal Hump After Nose Surgery

Formation of a False Dorsal Hump After Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty) is a condition that can sometimes occur. Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to alter the structure of the nose. During the postoperative recovery period, changes can occur in the tissues and bones of the nose. A false dorsal hump forms when the lower part of the nose remains relatively higher after the removal of bone and cartilage structures from the upper part of the nasal dorsum. This can cause a type of protrusion or hump appearance on the nasal dorsum.

If this occurs, it can often be corrected with surgical techniques or sometimes with secondary revisions. However, each patient’s situation is different, and it is important to talk to your surgeon to get the most accurate information on whether such complications may occur and how they will be treated if they do.

Remember that the recovery process after rhinoplasty varies for each patient, and it may take several months to see the final results. During this time, changes and swelling in the nasal structure are normal. However, if you have any concerns, it is best to discuss them with your surgeon.

When Will the Final Shape Be Visible After Nose Surgery?

The final results of rhinoplasty (nose surgery) usually take some time to appear. The recovery process and the timing of visible results vary from person to person, but you can consider the following timeframes as a general guide:

  1. First Few Weeks: The first few weeks after surgery are typically characterized by swelling and bruising. During this period, no immediate noticeable change in the shape of the nose is seen, as the tissue begins to heal and swelling persists.
  2. First 3 Months: Within the first three months, most of the swelling subsides, and the major changes in the shape of the nose become more noticeable. However, minor adjustments and changes can still occur during this period.
  3. 6-12 Months: During this period, most of the swelling completely goes down, and the nose begins to take its final shape. However, it may take up to a year for the tip of the nose to fully settle and take its final form.
  4. 1 Year and Beyond: The final results of rhinoplasty are generally seen about one year after the surgery. During this time, small tissue changes and healing continue. The nose completely settles and takes its final shape.

During this period, it is important to follow your surgeon’s instructions and attend regular follow-up appointments. If you have any concerns, it is best to discuss them with your surgeon. The recovery process can vary depending on your personal health condition, skin elasticity, and the extent of the surgery.
